What happens when you have an engineer/artist dad (Joe Norman), a bright young girl and a 3D printer to make prototypes during a stay-in-place order? Construct a icosahedron fort! What an awesome homeschool project!! We've got our eyes on Abby, she's going places already. Also, I want a play day in that fort! From Joe: "Attached are some photos of me and Abby learning about icosahedrons and building her new fort in the backyard, after prototyping it with 3D printed sockets we designed that fit Q-tips as structural members. We then used 2x4's and door hinges to make the full size version." In geometry, an icosahedron is a polyhedron with 20 faces. The name comes from Ancient Greek εἴκοσι, meaning 'twenty', and ἕδρα, meaning 'seat'. There are infinitely many non-similar shapes of icosahedra, some of them being more symmetrical than others.
"I am trying to keep my students painting while we cannot physically get together. For April, we had an assignment to paint one subject three times with different lighting. Below are my three examples. If you like any of these paintings, they are also available in our new preorder section of the store. For the month of May we are going to paint a white on white subject of your choice. Anyone is welcome to join in! I will critique paintings if anyone needs that! If you're interested, just contact the gallery and they will put you in touch with me. What has NSG's Stephen Shachtman been up to during Stay-in-Place? Lots of new monolithic sculptures and some help from a couple of the cutest workers around. What can we say? some of our artists are taking a creative approach to home-schooling; we know hands-on learning can leave a life-long impression. Stephen's kids, Dov and Avi, are helping out with moving the artwork and clearing off Spring snows. Looks like they're doing an awesome job.! Below are a few #WIP pieces he has in the works at his studio, If you see anything that interests you, please contact us for title scale and pricing. Most of Stephen's work is fabricated from Cor-Ten Steel, sometimes including areas of powder-coating for a pop of color. Check out his other available work here too.
We’ve represented Tal Walton since the mid-90’s and we still get pieces in the gallery that take our breath away. Tal has provided us a virtual studio visit for a look at his process. We hope you enjoy learning a bit more about this great artist.
“My work is about Americana, it’s about our roots. When life was a little slower, a little more simple. ...and l hope (my work) inspires you to slow down, look back, and find joy in things from your past.” -Tal Walton Studio interview from Tal Walton on Vimeo.

Thanks Platte River Power Authority! We will post photos of Alyson Kinkade’s painting installed along with the others by Kim English that Anderson Mason Dale Architects had commissioned for this placement as soon as we have them. Kinkade stated; "I delivered the commissioned paintings to Platte River Power Authority today. (wearing mask and gloves!) I’m thrilled to be part of their permanent collection in their beautiful new building. Special thanks to Anderson Mason Dale Architects for the selection and a gorgeous space for my art to hang. And thanks Columbine Gallery for the sale. I love this painting, "Vast, Front Range Sunset Symphony" and I love that it will be in a space that embraces environmental stewardship; keeping the landscapes that inspire my art around." We already knew how amazing our artist Joe Norman is, but now the world is getting a bigger glimpse of his generous spirit. He has been creating 3D printed ppe and ventilator parts to maximize the use of a ventilator for multiple patients at hospitals with limited equipment and resources. "Several weeks ago, I was working on four large public art placements in three different states in the western US. Since then, I and the various public art agencies have decided to put those projects on hold so they could focus (rightly) on the health of their communities. And, to be honest, there are more important things in my life right now than making sculpture. Specifically, there are thousands upon thousands of people dying scared and alone, isolated from their loved ones in hospitals across the country. I simply can't justify working on my own art when I have the ability to do something about that. Anyone interested in helping can visit make4covid.co and makersunite.co for more information." - Joe Norman #DoingYourPart #Covid19 #VentilatorManifolds #MakersUnite #Make4Covid #JoeNorman To all our Healthcare Professionals, THANK YOU for taking great care of us. We are forever grateful for all you do. NSG Fellow Jane DeDecker has a number of sculptures that depict our compassionate healers, this post shows just a few. The meaning of these pieces grows deeper lately as we rely on the brave men and women who are truly giving their all. #ThankYouHealthcareWorkers #JaneDeDecker #HealingTouch #PatientConcerns #DocElliot #CanYouFixThis #Bronze #Sculpture #ArtCares #StayHome #SaveLives #MedicalProfessionTribute #Doctors #Nurses #Housekeeping #ElderCare #KeepingUsSafe #DoYourPart |
