Our "In the Studio" update from NSG Fellow Darrell Davis is about the build of the studio itself. What a great new space, we can't wait to see what sculpture creations come out of here. Stay tuned for completion images... coming soon. Gary Alsum's grandson, Trevor, gave a hands-on critique about filling in the negative spaces of "Tried and True" the Veteran's Memorial commissioned by the University of Central Oklahoma. The piece will go through the bronze casting process soon thanks to Trevor's help. Hopefully he doesn't charge too high. #InsideTheStudio #GaryAlsum #WIP #TriedAndTrue #UCO
Our artist, Joe Norman may have too much time on his hands. Here's a video he's shared showing the effects of Stay-At-Home on artists who have studios and tools locked up in shared work spaces. Don't worry, we're checking in on him regularly.
#ConeOfShame #ArtistsAtHome #StayAtHome #SaveALife #JoeNorman #CreativesDuringCovidCrisis #FamilyTime #SillyVideo Gary Miller at work in the studio of the home he built with his wife Tammie in the mountains west of Fort Collins, Colorado. Gary has documented this painting from its beginning. It is about 80% complete at the point shown here.... when he sends all the photos we will post them here. In the meantime, you can preorder this painting here. It will ship directly from the studio once dry. New pieces are underway at NSG Fellow Sandy Scott's studio. She rarely slows down creating new work, and we aren't surprised that the health crisis isn't stopping her. While the breeds are not the same as the sculpture . . . the sentiment is. Maybe many of you have new pups during this Stay-At-Home time and can relate. What happens when you have an engineer/artist dad (Joe Norman), a bright young girl and a 3D printer to make prototypes during a stay-in-place order? Construct a icosahedron fort! What an awesome homeschool project!! We've got our eyes on Abby, she's going places already. Also, I want a play day in that fort! From Joe: "Attached are some photos of me and Abby learning about icosahedrons and building her new fort in the backyard, after prototyping it with 3D printed sockets we designed that fit Q-tips as structural members. We then used 2x4's and door hinges to make the full size version." In geometry, an icosahedron is a polyhedron with 20 faces. The name comes from Ancient Greek εἴκοσι, meaning 'twenty', and ἕδρα, meaning 'seat'. There are infinitely many non-similar shapes of icosahedra, some of them being more symmetrical than others.
"I am trying to keep my students painting while we cannot physically get together. For April, we had an assignment to paint one subject three times with different lighting. Below are my three examples. If you like any of these paintings, they are also available in our new preorder section of the store. For the month of May we are going to paint a white on white subject of your choice. Anyone is welcome to join in! I will critique paintings if anyone needs that! If you're interested, just contact the gallery and they will put you in touch with me. What has NSG's Stephen Shachtman been up to during Stay-in-Place? Lots of new monolithic sculptures and some help from a couple of the cutest workers around. What can we say? some of our artists are taking a creative approach to home-schooling; we know hands-on learning can leave a life-long impression. Stephen's kids, Dov and Avi, are helping out with moving the artwork and clearing off Spring snows. Looks like they're doing an awesome job.! Below are a few #WIP pieces he has in the works at his studio, If you see anything that interests you, please contact us for title scale and pricing. Most of Stephen's work is fabricated from Cor-Ten Steel, sometimes including areas of powder-coating for a pop of color. Check out his other available work here too.

“My work is about Americana, it’s about our roots. When life was a little slower, a little more simple. ...and l hope (my work) inspires you to slow down, look back, and find joy in things from your past.” -Tal Walton Studio interview from Tal Walton on Vimeo.
