Laugesen’s fragmented animal abstracts create a statement housed in both an ancient and contemporary context. She has successfully taken on the ambitious task to capture and translate the delicate beauty of the raku-fired ceramics into monumental forms.
“The horse is a magnificent creature, historic icon and my longtime muse. To unearth the form of the horse within clay is to recognize the enduring nature of this powerful, beautiful animal and its importance in the history of our civilization. This process of discovering the essence of a horse within the “mud” and transforming this into contemporary ceramic artworks remains my great joy and artistic passion.”
Amy Laugesen is a Colorado native. Examples of her work can be found in various private and public collections around the country.
“The intention of my work is to capture the essence of spirit, movement, and timeless story in the sculptural forms I create. The Horse, as form and function, is a reoccurring theme in my mixed media sculptures and large-scale commissioned public artworks. Often the sculptures appear broken or weathered like objects of antiquity. Smaller works are ceramic and the unique colors are achieved through the unpredictable nature of the Raku reduction firing process. For me, the Raku technique brings the artworks to life.”

With subject matter and media as varied as his experiences he was deeply impacted by the 10 months that he lived in Tuscany, Italy. Dan favors classic shapes and moody landscapes. The light of New Mexico and the southwestern region reminiscent of Italy also enters into his motifs.
“I remember drawing as a four year-old. Licking the tip of the red color pencil made a more intense red as I drew my tree! In seventh grade, I was given a set of oil paints for a Christmas present. My mom showed me what she had learned about painting a still life in an evening class. In 1973 and 1974, while an art student at the University of Northern Colorado, I had the chance to study in Florence, Italy for 10 months. That influence changed my life in many ways. Following graduation, I began teaching art in the public school. From drawing, to printmaking, to ceramics, to painting, my experiences broadened and I fell "head over heels" infatuated with mark making. I have found that my brushes and pencils create the same endless variety of marks just as the world surrounding me displays an endless variety of life. I find whimsical lines of energy in my paintings begin to imitate the energy that I sense around me. I have fallen in love with my brush! My subject matter and media reflect over forty years of sharing a wide range of artistic adventures with my students in public school and at the college where I currently teach. Every new medium still represents another possible right answer to some yet unanswered query and another journey to some adventure.“ -Dan Augenstein

I enjoy honest welds and allen head bolts, the joy of struggle and walnut oil on smooth sanded wood. My best work has regret and relief and sometimes I throw wrenches.
I steal natural shapes for my sculpture. Animal bones and river stones feel familiar in my gut. They’re all over the place, and they’re beautiful.
I take emotional resonance and apply it to beautiful shapes. The right emotion AND the right shape just might be powerful to the right person. Maybe it is a small example of how to practice BOTH AND in addition to EITHER OR.
My intent is to make art that contributes to a wider conversation about justice and care and our impact on the world. I hope it helps people think and be happy; I hope it helps people be important to each other.

Joe Norman graduated with a degree in engineering from Stanford University prior to careers in product design consulting, education, and fine art. His furniture and sculpture explore environments that support and promote communities. Many of his designs are direct results of working with schools, families, and businesses to develop places that encourage people to work and be together in positive and supportive ways.
Joe believes that gathering places feed the soul of our communities; that it is around our kitchens or with our feet propped up on coffee tables that we have some of our most important conversations. He thinks the most important part of his work isn’t the tables he makes, but rather it is about the people that are sitting around them. In other words, we do not need more stuff in our lives that does not bring us together in community.
Joe’s furniture is made with recycled and environmentally conscious processes and materials whenever possible; he considers the earth itself as an important member of our global community. In fact, many of his ideas in were born from wrecking yards, recycling centers, and retired bicycles. His machine shop is powered by renewable wind energy.

Being an admirer of Mother Nature, Gary is inspired by the roaring waterfalls, bugling elk, and mountain vistas that have surrounded him most of his life. Primarily an oil painter; his landscapes and wildlife paintings reflect this appreciation.
Gary Miller was born in Oklahoma, but moved to Pueblo, Colorado at an early age. As a child, Gary found immense pleasure in painting and drawing. What started as a recreational activity soon blossomed into a lifelong passion. Gary worked with Union Pacific Railroad after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Southern Colorado State College in 1972 (now Colorado State University – Pueblo). He retired from the railroad in 2010 and began painting full time. In 1987, the Colorado Cattleman’s Association magazine, “The Cattle Guard”, featured Gary’s painting on its cover. Over the years he has been widely collected and has shown in galleries throughout Colorado; as well as Taos, New Mexico; Oklahoma; Kansas; and Wyoming. One of Gary’s painting is displayed in the visitor center of the Japanese sister city to Abilene, Kansas. He now resides in the mountains west of Fort Collins, Colorado with his wife, Tammie, in a home they built together.

If you need time to build funds for that perfect artwork, we allow up to 6 months of interest-free payments. With your deposit of at least 1/3, you ensure the piece is yours until you've paid in full. All artworks are retained until fully paid. Please call us to order in this method as it is not currently available online.

Many of our artists will paint or sculpt to your specified needs. This may include portraits, certain size, etc. Depending on the commission, we may provide multiple proposals for you to choose from. The initial design is complimentary. If the design phase is extensive a design fee will be incurred. Please let us know your wishes and we will connect you with the artist(s) that meet your request.

For all other materials, please contact us. We can help establish best practices that you can implement to clean your artwork yourself, or connect you with trained professionals and conservators that can work on-site to help maintain your collection on a regular basis, or help with highly distressed pieces that need major work.

Pricing and Discounts

The pricing is set by the artist based on their costs and career level. We are an artist-driven organization and take a smaller commission than most galleries. We do not adjust the retail pricing, nor do we bargain as this will only result in devaluing the artist's entire body of work. Valuations are based primarily on the last sold price of a piece. It behooves you as a patron to not buy art that has been severely discounted. Reselling Your Artwork

Sorry, we don't purchase artwork. All the artwork on display at Columbine Gallery is consigned by the artists we represent. You may find your collection has out grown your space. We unfortunately cannot consign aftermarket work at this time. We recommend you attempt selling the artwork on your own. Be sure to have your artwork appraised by a certified appraiser. Frequently Asked Questions, FAQ, Columbine Gallery, JK Designs, is headquartered at Columbine Gallery in Loveland, Colorado. Over the last 25 years, Loveland has become a mecca for the creation of sculpture. The community is home to over three hundred artists, many of whom work in sculpture related support industries. As of August of 2009, 2,766 workers in Loveland, out of a total workforce of 33,401, are employed in the arts and design related/cultural occupations. This is over 8% of the total labor force in Loveland. There are workers in fine art, literary art, including publishing, design, art related retail heritage (museum) and the performing arts. Shortly after JK Designs, Principal John Kinkade established the National Sculptors' Guild, it was determined that visitors wanted to see examples of the members’ artwork. As a result, Columbine Gallery was opened. The 4,500 square foot building housing the gallery was designed by one of Frank Lloyd Wrights’ last students. The sculpture on display is by NSG members only; accompanied by renowned painters selected by Kinkade. Owned and operated by the father/daughter team of John Kinkade & Alyson Kinkade, the gallery artfully displays over 800 NSG sculptures plus many paintings by 50 local and national artists. Columbine Gallery provides a tranquil atmosphere for art appreciators wishing to reduce the external details of the world and indulge in the true essence of art ~ a world of visual play and internal moods. Perched above a pond with a view of the Rockies, the National Sculptors’ Guild Sculpture Garden is an acre filled with unusual botanical specimens and over 80 sculptures. The garden is divided into a number of outdoor ‘rooms’ to exhibit how the sculptures function in outdoor settings. All of the artwork in the garden is for sale and as a result, the look of the garden is constantly changing.
