The central theme of my work is celebrating the gift of life. Most of my work in the last few years has been commissioned. I enjoy the challenge of combining the client’s vision and needs with my own ideas to create lasting depictions of significant memories in their lives. Although I am open to considering many concepts involving the human figure, I am particularly drawn to capturing subjects in motion. Movement, after all, is what captures our attention. Children at play and athletes in motion are my favorite subjects because of the passion for life they demonstrate. It is a constant challenge to capture these qualities in bronze and pass that on to the viewer. When developing each new sculpture my primary concern is artistic integrity.

His journey in sculpture began after a visit to Brookgreen Gardens, Murrells inlet South Carolina, as a teenager. After receiving a BFA from The University of Texas at Arlington he enrolled in the Graduate School of Architecture`s landscape program. Wildlife sculptor, Darrell Davis, knew at age 15 he wanted to be a sculptor after visiting the South Carolina’s Brookgreen Sculpture Garden. Davis studied art as an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Arlington, and took graduate classes in landscape architecture also at the University of Texas. In 2013 Darrell was awarded the Gold Medal and Maurice B Hexter prize at the National Sculpture Society 80th Annual Exhibition held at the Tampa Museum of Art and Brookgreen Gardens SC. Darrell is a signature member of the National Sculpture Society, American Society of Marine Artists, Society of Animal Artists, and California Art Club. Darrell Davis was born in 1962 in rural west Texas but spent his early years in the Los Angeles area. From these two disparate worlds, Davis’ love of seeming contradiction emerged. Those diverse experiences and viewpoints were seeds that play out magnificently in his work today and he strives to learn, grow and push this envelope in every new piece. In a style that he and a few of his contemporaries lovingly refer to as impatient realism, he touches his audience. Combining the softness, fluidity and grace of his living subjects with the clean hard geometric, all while maintaining structure and composition, he manages to meld the two into something more powerful and impactful. “I love the idea of mixing the geometric, almost architectural shapes, with that of the free flowing organic. There is just something about sharp geometric lines juxtaposed with the organic curvilinear lines of nature that intrigues me of late.” “I guess its really an attempt to mesh the man-made world with the natural world. It’s a conundrum that I’m intrigued with abstraction and that of traditional realism. A large amount of abstraction is much too cold and dehumanizing, while a large amount of contemporary realism is simply stiff modeling of a subject. I fight to avoid both of those traps in my compositions. Sometimes you succeed and sometimes you don’t.” In the end, to me, the art of sculpture is all about balance, mass, composition, and gravity.” Darrell’s amazing ability to utilize convergent scientific thinking with the more divergent thinking traditionally associated with art produces works that affect both the right and left brain providing a pleasing balance. Davis was recently awarded the National Sculpture Society’s Gold Medal and Maurice B. Hexter prize at its 80th annual Exhibition held at the Tampa Museum of Art and Brookgreen Gardens. Davis is an elected member of the National Sculpture Society, California Art Club, American Society of Marine Artists, and Society of Animal Artists.

His subject matter, ranging from a street side fruit stand in Mexico to sun filled windows, creates a particular mood, through which the viewer is introduced to charming scenarios that are wrapped in depth and texture, and are entirely about paint. This is the primary force of English's painting: his astonishing manipulation of his medium. His many awards include the Oil Painters of America, the Certificate of Merit and the Joseph Hartley Memorial Award . Kim English explores and creates visual observations of everyday life capturing the human spirit on canvas. He maintains a feeling of spontaneity by completing each painting in one sitting the alla prima method. He says of using this method, Immediacy is important. Not only because it is often the nature of people, but for me it is the most instinctive way to paint. English was born in 1957 in Omaha, Nebraska and raised in a rural community near Colorado Springs. After graduation from the Rocky Mountain School of Art he joined the faculty and later began teaching at the Art Students League of Denver and the Scottsdale Artists School. It continued to be a vital interest, even after starting a 5-year BA program at Tulane University’s School of Architecture in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1981 Fleming returned to his hometown of Washington, DC and continued his apprentice work with architectural firms. As a professional architect, he designed and built mostly residential projects, which could be considered sculptures that people live in. In 1993 he started a program in stone sculpture at the Corcoran School of Art located in Washington DC. His artistic response to stone was so powerful that within a short time he was juggling his full-time architecture practice with what became almost full-time carving. Discovering an intense desire to return to sculpture as art, he dedicated himself to exploration and learning as an artist. In the summer of 1994, he went to Pietrasanta, Italy to study at the Pietrasanta Marble Carving Studio. Upon retuning to the States, he and his family moved to Corrales, New Mexico. There, Fleming devoted most of his time to making stone sculpture and apprenticing with sculptor Doug Hyde in Santa Fe. In 1995, Fleming and his family returned to Pietrasanta for a half-year of intense study. After leaving Italy, he and his family moved back to New Mexico, where he lived for several years, and most recently has moved to New Orleans, LA. “As an artist, I believe that the pursuit of knowledge of the human body is limitless. I’m actually delighted to think that I can study this for the rest of my life, and always have more to learn.”

He received his degree from the University of Utah, then served two years in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Having spent numerous years as a guide and ski instructor, Denny has learned to love the rivers and mountains of the western states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Oregon, and Utah. After moving to Loveland, a hub of successful working sculptors, he wasted no time in getting monumental sculpture experience through working with renowned sculptors including Fritz White and Kent Ullberg N.A. Since 1987, Denny has created and placed dozens of monumental compositions; spanning the full spectrum of the figurative genre. As a member of the Potawatomi Citizen Nation, it is only natural for his artwork to follow the Native American culture. His art has not been limited to Native American and southwestern subjects, however, as he frequently explores abstract forms placing emphasis on the qualities of the metal and stone used. As a Charter member of the National Sculptors' Guild and being close to other sculptors and the Loveland area foundries has helped him to master all the foundry processes involved in producing a desirable and lasting monumental bronze sculpture. Over 50 major public placements include the Smithsonian Institution, DC.; the Gilcrease Museum, OK; Cerritos, CA; Little Rock, AR; the Shakopee Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux collection, MN, and the Barona Band of Mission Indians, CA. My best work has regret and relief and sometimes I throw wrenches. I steal natural shapes for my sculpture. Animal bones and river stones feel familiar in my gut. They’re all over the place, and they’re beautiful. I take emotional resonance and apply it to beautiful shapes. The right emotion AND the right shape just might be powerful to the right person. Maybe it is a small example of how to practice BOTH AND in addition to EITHER OR. My intent is to make art that contributes to a wider conversation about justice and care and our impact on the world. Joe Norman graduated with a degree in engineering from Stanford University prior to careers in product design consulting, education, and fine art. His furniture and sculpture explore environments that support and promote communities. Joe believes that gathering places feed the soul of our communities; that it is around our kitchens or with our feet propped up on coffee tables that we have some of our most important conversations. He thinks the most important part of his work isn’t the tables he makes, but rather it is about the people that are sitting around them. In other words, we do not need more stuff in our lives that does not bring us together in community. Joe’s furniture is made with recycled and environmentally conscious processes and materials whenever possible; he considers the earth itself as an important member of our global community. In fact, many of his ideas in were born from wrecking yards, recycling centers, and retired bicycles. His machine shop is powered by renewable wind energy.

Oil painting by JEAN PERRY available at Columbine Gallery Colorado's Largest Fine Art Source Specialists in Public Art and Home Decor My painting style has evolved thru the years from creating large abstract collages using acrylics and tissue paper to a more traditional style today that could be described as a form of Impressionism. The change began some thirty years ago when I discovered the excitement of painting outside on location. Today I am primarily a plein air painter traveling all over the world with my portable easel and paints in my backpack. I work mainly in oil and when traveling I paint on surfaces of linen that has been glued to Baltic birch wooden panels or Styrofoam boards. When painting a landscape en plein air you are limited to the number of hours you can work before the moving sun has created an entirely different picture so I carry small panels in sizes from 8”x10” to the largest size, 16”x20”. Actually, I think that this constraint of time helps me to concentrate on the impression of the scene and not get too involved with the details and hopefully the painting will have some of the emotion that I felt when I was standing there. These paintings are usually close to being a finished painting, but if not, I will work on them in the studio before releasing them to a gallery. In my studio I also use these small pieces as reference for larger paintings on stretched linen canvas, sometimes combining the information from more than one field study. I also paint still lifes and portraits from life and believe all painting is learning to “see”. Jean started art classes at age 5 when her mother sent her to Saturday lessons at the Nelson Atkins Museum in Kansas City, Mo. Majoring in Fine Arts at the University of Colorado, she began painting in an abstract, nonobjective style. Signing up for a local plein air workshop taught by Mel Fillerup of Wyoming she discovered the joys of painting on location. ‘We painted every day even in a spring snow storm and I knew I had found my direction’. Since that time Jean has continued her art education with classes at the Scottsdale Artists School, workshops with many instructors including private lessons with Mark Daily in Denver. Her style of painting has evolved from abstract to a more traditional form of Impressionism working mainly in oil. Jean has painted and traveled all over the world including Indonesia, Europe and Mexico. She teaches workshops every year with several different organizations. The most prestigious oil painting organizations in America have voted her a signature member including the Plein Air Painters of America, Oil Painters of America, Rocky Mountain Plein Air Painters and an honorary member of the Tucson Plein Air Painters Society. Her paintings can be found in shows from New York to California including the Arts for the Parks Top 100, The Salmagundi Club in New York City, Laguna Art Museum, Clymer Museum in Washington and the Desert Caballeros Museum in Arizona. I explore the positive/negative space relationship and how this interplay can be manipulated to give the impression of life and movement to my chosen subjects. Although my work is somewhat abstract, it has a strong basis in anatomical accuracy. I feel it necessary to have an intimate understanding of my subject matter before attempting to abstract it. This allows me to pick and choose which physical characteristics to emphasize or de-emphasize, thus creating a unique visual experience with each completed sculpture.” I have been interested in art since I was a child, but it wasn't until I first put two pieces of metal together in a college sculpture course that I truly found my voice. I have been fortunate to be able to combine my lifelong curiosity towards the natural world with a creative path that allows me to explore my own vision of what is interesting and beautiful. By continuing to push my own boundaries artistically, I hope to ensure that the journey never ends. Wildlife bronze sculpture by SANDY SCOTT available at Columbine Gallery home of the National Sculptors' Guild Colorado's Largest Fine Art Source Specialists in Public Art A licensed pilot for more than thirty years, she feels her knowledge of aerodynamics has been helpful in achieving the illusion of movement in her bird sculpture. The Thomas Gilcrease Museum honored Sandy with a major retrospective exhibition in “Rendezvous ‘98”. Spirit of the Wild Things, a book about Sandy’s work was published the same year. Congratulations to Sandy for her recent accolades from the Briscoe Western Art Museum, honoring her with the Legacy Award. Sandy Scott received her formal art training at the Kansas City Art Institute and later worked as an animation background artist for the motion picture industry. She turned her attention to etchings and printmaking in the 1970’s and to sculpture in the 1980’s. Born in Dubuque, Iowa in 1943 and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, she is now headquartered in Lander, Wyoming near the foundry that casts her bronzes and she maintains studios on Lake of the Woods, Ontario, Canada and in the mountains of northern Colorado. Surrounded by mountains, lakes and streams, she is an avid outdoorswoman who loves to hunt and fish. In Canada her friends Dave and Michelle Beaushane who own Nestor Falls Fly-In Outposts frequently fly her and Trish (her long time friend who manages the business end of things) to remote lakes and portages north of Kenora, Ontario. She has made 16 trips to Alaska and has been to Europe, Russia, China and South America to visit the world’s great museums. She believes wildlife artists should be in the field to accurately present their subject to the viewer. Her work is authentic. She has experienced and lived what she depicts.

From utilitarian creations in jewelry, furniture and lighting design to abstract sculpture. From personal sculptural creations, private commission to public art; Stephen’s sculpture “Bridge” was voted Denver’s best new public art project in 2013. When he’s not metalsmithing or remodeling his Mid-Century modern home, he is busy teaming up with his wife, chasing around their two year old son Dov. His wife Shoshanna, works with individuals and couples in her psychotherapy practice located in Fort Collins. In addition, Stephen has been teaching Jewelry Design/ metalsmithing at Metro State University in Denver. Stephen’s current studio is located near downtown Denver. As a person I’m an explorer, constantly seeking to find something new and stimulating in either a physical or cerebral sense. Sculptures I create circulate in aesthetics in contemporary forms with influences from, science and architecture. Depending on the sculptural forms and concepts, a few primary materials employed are; copper, glass, and steel. Some of the elements in Stephen’s work range from; hammered surfaces which have an organic aesthetic while overall forms tend to have clean lines with a minimalistic approach yet are monolithic in presence. Some aesthetics are large-scale filigree in the metal that allows a viewer to see through the organic forms, while similar manipulation of glass elements are stacked to create positive and negative spaces. All pieces are affected by the orientation of light to unveil the personality of the sculptures, which create a 4th dimension of shadows and reflection as they emerge to produce an element of surprise.

She loves painting living energy, whether it is the outdoor landscape, berries and flowers picked for a still life, or the unending variety of the human face. Vito has been a full time oil painter since 1992. She currently lives in Pueblo, Colorado. Vito has won numerous national and regional awards including an Award of Excellence, Best Portrait and Best Still Life Awards from Oil Painters of America. She also received the Best of Show award from the Artists of Colorado Exhibition held at the Colorado History Museum. Teresa Vito grew up in a one store town in upstate New York. She had never met an artist or had gone to an art gallery until she went to college. She chose to major in art because she loved to draw. College offered no clue as to how to become an artist so she decided to try to figure it out on her own. With $250 and a train ticket to Denver (she had never been west of Ohio) carrying a suitcase, a purse and a portfolio of nude drawings, Vito began her artistic journey. During her twenties she did every job she could find that was art related. Vito worked in a frame shop and gallery, at art supply stores, made posters and newspaper advertisements and created display windows in downtown Denver. The year the Art Students League in Denver opened, she maneuvered a job there running a small art supply store. It was here she found out about the world of Artist's Workshops. Vito learned as much as she could looking through the door of the many classes taught by master artists, who were in fact making a living with their art. With this inspiration, Vito saved up enough money in 1992 to live cheaply for a year and become a full time artist. She has never looked back and strives to continue to be the best possible painter she can be. She now teaches workshops with gratitude and generosity, to share in all that she has learned. Vito has a BA in Fine Art from the State University of New York at Geneseo and has taught and studied at the Art Students League at Denver and the Loveland Academy of Fine Arts. She has expanded her knowledge by taking numerous workshops over the years with artists Quang Ho, Ramon Kelley, Clyde Aspevig, Mike Lynch, Greg McHuron, Laura Robb and Nancy Guzik, Greg Kreutz and Robert Johnson. Vito painted with acclaimed Master Artist Richard Schmid for five years. Vito has conducted workshops and painted in various locations in Colorado and New Mexico as well as Provence, Bordeaux and Burgundy France, the Copper Canyon in Mexico, Tuscany Italy, Thailand and Laos, Spain and Morocco, the Greece island of Hydra and New York City. Vito loves to travel and paint different inspiring locations and is looking forward to expanding her travel list!
